I was recently interviewed by the lovely and talented Angela Kopolovich, for her blog. We talked about the relationship between self-esteem, lawyers and happiness. It turns out feeling good about yourself can go a long way towards making you feel happier. Who knew?
Here is a link to the interview. Hope you like it.

My new book is a comic novel about a psychotherapist who falls in love with a blue alien from outer space. I guarantee pure reading pleasure: Bad Therapist: A Romance.
Please also check out The People’s Therapist’s legendary best-seller about the sad state of the legal profession: Way Worse Than Being a Dentist: The Lawyer’s Quest for Meaning
My first book is an unusual (and useful) introduction to the concepts underlying psychotherapy: Life is a Brief Opportunity for Joy
(In addition to Amazon.com, my books are also available on bn.com and the Apple iBookstore.)
The sad state of the legal profession? What about the sad state of the mental health field? I sort of get the impression overall from your post that you have to remind yourself how bad the legal profession is and to parade yourself as a therapist. Could it be that you may be overcompensating somehow? Going from being a lawyer to a therapist may have felt like a step down to you into a profession that is not dissimilar to the legal profession in many ways. For both the legal and social work profession: 1. You must deal with people’s problems, 2-you give advice or suggestions that are not followed in many instances, 3-depending on where you work and what type of therapist you are, you are likely at the beck and call of your clients, 4-You are likely to run into fraud and other nasty practices, 5-You are likely to run into unstable jobs. I do see there would be less stress being a social worker – you may convince yourself that you have the illusion of helping others (may be you feel you possess some special knowledge or enlightenment). You may not have to work 80 hours per week, and pretty much you have a whole world of clients – because everyone is a bit nutty. Maybe social work is better? However, I think in the big scheme it is all BS and it’s bad for ya (compliments of George Carlin). We are a business driven economy and anyone who thinks they are helping someone is a fool; money talks and BS walks.
Dear Linda, I sort of get the impression overall from your vitriolic response that his critiques of the legal profession hit too close to home for you. You are seriously comparing social work to corporate law? You are a self-parody of the insecure litigator using strained analogies to “win” arguments about personal life choices.
